Ensuring more children survive leukaemia
In 1960, when the charity was formed, children with leukaemia had almost no hope of survival. Now, thanks to research funded by Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research more than 9 out of 10 children survive the most common form of leukaemia.
Improving diagnosis so everyone gets the treatment they need quickly
In 1960 it was thought that there were only four types of blood cancers: leukaemia, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma. Our dedicated researchers have revealed that there are many subsets of these diseases – each requiring different treatment. This information has allowed our scientists to develop tests so that patients all over the world receive the treatment they need.
Developing better, safer treatments tailored to each patient
50 years ago treatments were very primitive and extremely toxic for patients. Even if patients responded, any improvement was short lived. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has invested in clinical trials to find more effective drugs for patients with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma resulting in greatly improved treatments – and these diseases can now be managed much more effectively and more patients than ever before are saved.
Investing in research that swiftly benefits patients
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research invests in specialist centres where scientists work alongside doctors. This means research benefits are swiftly translated into improved patient care so that more lives are saved.
Learning how to prevent all blood cancers so families are spared the pain of losing a loved one
Survival rates have increased dramatically over the last 50 years thanks to continued investment by Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in world-class research. But despite advances, people are still losing loved ones to leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
